Tips On How to Make a Catapult Using a Ruler

When you are teaching children about ancient medieval weaponry, you can make the lesson more interactive and exciting by showing the kids how they can construct their own medieval weapon using classroom materials. For example, transform a standard-sized ruler into a catapult that can hurl soft objects like cotton balls across the room. This enables your class to launch their very own whimsical catapult assault on fellow students, acting out a real battle from their history books.

Instructions

Form 8 oz. of polymer clay into a ball. Place the clay ball onto a tabletop.

Press a metal ruler onto the clay ball, angling the ruler so that it rests at a 60-degree angle. Position the ruler so that one end of the ruler is touching the table top, and the other end is sticking up.

Place the structure onto a cookie sheet, and bake it in a 200 degree Fahrenheit oven for 10 minutes. Allow the ruler catapult to cool for 30 minutes.

Place a soft object onto the high end of the ruler, such as a cotton ball, pull it down slightly, then release it to launch the object across the room.
